today, one US dollar will buy you .94 Euros. Cars in Europe just got alot cheaper for us Muricans. I may have to pull the trigger sooner than I expected

No need to hurry, this exchange rate isn't an accident. The european Central Bank is deliberately keeping the Euro low, so expect it to stay like this for quite a while or go down even further.

If you find a car somewhere around Munich, I could check it out for you.

you cannot lose with one of those. Which flavor would you look for though? Wasserboxer, diesel, syncro, 2wd? Beater to restore and have something worth huge money, or a nice one to start with?

Ultra easy for me to decide, something like this http://www.autoscout24.com/Details.aspx?i…

Ooh, that's nice. Sooo cheap too. I'd either like a TD Syncro like that that I could then put an ALH 1.9L TDI in, or a 2.1L gas Syncro, with no serious holes. Not something that will require a lot of work to be roadworthy, I don't have time or space for that. Don't care if it's a 15 or 16". A client of mine has a Syncro Doka with an ALH in it, and it's fucking amazing, with loads of torque, and over 30mpg.

GoWesty is a mile from my house, so there are quite a few around, but they're all over 20k for a rusty beater. Even rough 2wd Dokas are over $10k. One of my racing buddies in Cologne sends me links to them, it's just amazing how cheap they are. I want one so badly.

Agreed! It's so much cheaper now. I hope my E30 Touring is ready soon,as this would be a great time to export it.

super cheap. Sounds like you are on a good path

Fuck gowesty. Beautiful vehicles. Never ever worth 80K+ when you can get a brand new sprinter for less

They have single handedly driven the van market through the roof, so now everyone with a rusty beater Westy thinks it's worth 20k. Even good tintops are well over $5k here. I will say, it's nice to have them locally for parts though, and those folks are great. Rabid Vanagon love. I can get with that.

oh yeah no doubt. Wagonmaster did it with Wagoneers etc etc. For every niche there is someone more than willing to make the price adjust to their desires if the work is good enough
